Space Rescue

The Scenario

The Scenario

It is the near future.  Commercial Space Travel is a reality.  Safety is the number one priority.  Highly trained ground teams stand ready to assist any spacecraft that gets into trouble.  They hone their skills with the help of a computer controlled emergency simulator.  Your team now has access to that simulator.

Here's the situation.  A brand new spacecraft on its maiden test flight has a problem. A massive systems failure has occurred and a small explosion has damaged other parts of the ship.  The spacecraft’s oxygen supply has been compromised and the crew has only 2 hours of air left before they must attempt a re-entry.  Its structural integrity is sufficient for re-entry but there is much work to do to get it ready to be able to attempt one and land safely.

The crew can do some things on-board, but they face many challenges that they need external assistance with  - yours!  You need to communicate effectively with the crew and tackle the challenges that you are presented with to the best of your team’s ability.

Think Apollo 13 and you are halfway there.  On the ground, your team has two hours to help the crew get their spacecraft into shape and position for re-entry.

Up for a Challenge?

To tackle this successfully, you'll need to be up for a challenge and show effective team working processes.  You'll experience an activity that is truly different, is thoroughly involving and one that will test your team to the limit.

There are two key types of action required by any participating team.

Firstly and continually, they need to communicate with the crew members on board the spacecraft.  They also need to tackle challenges to help those crew members get the spacecraft fit for a return to Earth.

The challenges are many and varied.  They include cerebral challenges, some that require construction skills, memory tests, knowledge tests – even a lightly physical task.

Some of these can be tackled by one person alone, others require two or three people to work on together, others still need the whole team.

The tasks have been carefully created to be capable of being judged by our computer software.  So the team needs to prove it has completed each and every task successfully through a “quality control” mechanism built into the web page everything runs from.

The parallels back to the workplace are important as they help the team focus on making improvements in real life.  Processes under the microscope include:

  • Leadership skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Team communication
  • Consensus building
  • Priority setting
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving.

Intuitive Interface

The entire activity is facilitated in a browser window.  No software to download, no fancy settings required.  The intuitive interface looks and acts like any regular email software, so everyone will already know how to use it.  But this is no email based activity.  The vast majority of the action happens away from the computer.  We use technology to deliver a real team building session to you and your team wherever you are.

Maximum Learning

At the end, in addition to a comprehensive Team Performance Analysis, you'll get the chance - if you want it - to engage in a professional debriefing session using our structured process (again delivered over the web) that will help you maximise your team learning and return you to your workplace as a more effective team.

Team Sizes

We have no limit on team size but recommend that if you have more than 10 people you organise them into more than one team.  Please note, each team will need access to its own computer for the session.  Only one computer per team is necessary for teams where all the members are together for the session, although a team can have more than one computer logged in - these can be geographically remote - if preferred or required.
